Well, today was the day! Kate was up bright & early, and super-excited about the first day of school. It helped that she had met her teacher the night before and was able to see her classroom, pick her cubby, and find her seat. It also helps that one of her friends is in her class! (I work with her mom, and we played quite a bit this summer)
Backyard pictures before we left.
Her new monkey backpack, which is as big as she is, but at least it will hold all of her stuff!
Jason & I were both able to take her, which was really nice. She paused for a few photos in front of the school...
...and then she was off.
Hanging her backpack in her cubby.
She then sat at her desk and played with the cubes that her teacher had set out. We said goodbye and that was it! I was glad to have sunglasses to hide a few tears, but overall it went very smoothly for all of us. She reported a great day: 3 recesses, reading time (The Kissing Hand), a salad bar in the lunchroom, and NO rest time!
She is quite tired tonight and we are imagining a few rough evenings in the next couple weeks as we all transition back to school. But we could not be prouder of our brave, smart, kind little girl! Here's to a great year full of learning, new friends and lots of memories.
