The Little Monkey's Party

Much to my utter shock, my little baby girl is turning 5 this week. Today we had her birthday party: monkey themed (of course), and the first one with friends. It could not have been more perfect!

The morning was a true practice of patience: she could not WAIT for her friends to come and she would check the door every 2 minutes to see if they were here yet. I had a lot of mom anxiety that no one would come, but luckily they all arrived right on time!
As requested: the same exact monkey balloon she had 2 years ago, plus a monkey tattoo that she made sure everyone received upon entering the party.
First up: a rousing game of limbo.

Next, the girls looked for 24 bananas that were hidden around the house. They had a ton of fun running around to find them, and then lining them up to make sure they had them all!
After that, the girls made monkey puppets. Right away Kate asked if she could be the one to tell everyone how to do it, and she did a great job as "teacher"!

The girls then put on a puppet show, which was quite entertaining (and made me once again wonder in awe how her preschool teacher has 15 kids this age every day!)

Next was a game of "number walk", where they ran around on numbered monkeys until the music stopped. Once their number was drawn, they got to pick out a lipgloss...
...which they then ran up to apply in the bathroom, a glimpse into the teenage years.

 Kate then opened presents.
Her best friend, Willow got her a Build a Bear monkey, which was obviously a hit.

Finally, it was time for monkey cupcakes made by Aunt Alisha and the singing of "Happy Birthday".

When I asked her what she wished for she said, "Summer".

My wish was that my baby girl goes through life as happy, kind, and excited as she was today.

Before the party started, I was in tears that Kate is already five. But as my mom reminded me, each year is better than the last. The last five years have been better than we could have ever imagined, and I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

Jump Jump

Since the weather has been anything but spring-like, we have had to find indoor fun over break. Luckily yesterday morning, our friends met us at "Jump Jump" as Andrew calls it.

 {Funny story: a few months ago while I was waiting to pay to get in, Andrew threw up in the lobby. Jason took him home, and I stayed with Kate. He.was.heartbroken. Now, every time I tell him that we are going to Jump Jump he says, "I no spit up mama, I no spit up."}

Clearly, we had a good time.

Love Andrew's tongue sticking out: such concentration.

 So sweet.
 No words.

Thanks to Amanda for the great pictures and the fun morning with you and the girls!

Waterpark Fun

On Monday, we were excited to surprise the kids with a trip to a waterpark about 2.5 hours from home. The kids had never stayed in a hotel before, so they were really excited about the whole thing. It was even more fun than we expected!

Andrew and Daddy going down the waterslide. Kate went down a ton by herself, but I didn't get any great pictures of her.
The biggest hit of the park was definitely the wobbly log bridge. I cannot tell you how many times each of them went across!

After day one: enjoying a Poptart in bed while watching cartoons...is there a better way to spend a vacation?!
Back for more fun the next morning.

And one last treat before we left: dippin dots ice cream.

Despite chilly water (there were definitely blue lips and shivering involved!), we had an absolute blast. It was a great way for the kids to burn off their energy, since the weather looks like it's going to keep us inside the rest of break.

Girls' Day

Since Kate and I were both off of school yesterday, we took a girls' road trip to Ames to visit the butterfly garden at Reimen Gardens.
But first, we had to enjoy our traditional girls day breakfast: "A cinnamon roll the size of my head" as Kate calls it!
We couldn't believe how many butterflies were flying around the garden, and the warm air felt so good after the winter we have had.
Love spending rare alone time with this girl!

After awhile, Kate decided that she has a passion for photography, so she took over the camera.
 Some of her work...

 Self portrait.

We then went to Hickory Park for lunch where we enjoyed some great BBQ, and ice cream for dessert.

What a sweet day to start spring break!
