The spring of 2020 was unlike anything we have every experienced. The state went into shutdown & schools were closed for the year. The photos below are snapshots of this time, which was a time of both/and. We were filled with sadness, fear, and disappointment, but we also had many moments of joy, laughter & moments of quiet, in what normally is a season of rushing around.
When I closed up my classroom in March, I had no idea it was going to be my last time being in there until I had an hour in May to clean it out for the year. This was a hard way to say goodbye to room #118.
The time Andrew ate *six* cinnamon rolls while I was in an online training.
Lots of Zoom calls with classes, which was the only way the kids were able to see their teachers and classmates. While these were hard to keep track of each week, I was definitely grateful for the teachers for keeping the kids connected.
Spelling class.
I tried to take a walk during lunch each day. Getting out in the fresh air helped break up the days.
Playing battleship over Facetime.
I have never been more thankful for our home gym!
One major benefit was slower mornings. One day Andrew called grandma who told him how to make French Toast.
My homeschool view each day. It was hard to balance helping the kids & my own students.
Did I drink wine from a straw a few times? I did.
Costume party zoom with Cavanagh cousins.
Baking class.
Art class.
Science class.
Quarantine chic.
A March social distance snowball fight in March was on brand with 2020.
I learned to make sourdough and would make a loaf a day to drop off for family & friends.
I gave Kate a haircut. Her terror-filled eyes say it all.
Playing Legos on FaceTime.
Lots of watercolor painting.
In the end, we made it. It was one of the hardest seasons so far, but I also loved our time together. It forced us to slow down and appreciate the small joys found in even the darkest times.
Mr. Vogel, you've got next year!
