After 10 weeks of training, I completed the Iowa Games Triathlon on July 11th. It was a HOT morning, but the training paid off and the race turned out better than I could have hoped for!
Walking up for my wave of swimming (400 yards).
Coming into transition #1 to get my bike after the swim.
13 miles.
Off the bike to finish with a 3.1 mile run.
As you can tell by this running photo, I was dying during this portion of the race. The heat was rough and it felt like I was walking.
I was shocked to see my mile pace was actually better than I was expecting to run. I was also really excited to find out that I had placed second in my age group.
So thankful for Jason, who I was able to see quite a few times on the course and who helped me juggle 10 weeks of training.
When I got to my parents' I found that the kids had made a CONGRATULATIONS sign complete with flowers, a trophy and champagne.
What a perfect end to this challenging and fun experience!
